This album consists of famous works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: His two concertos for Flute and orchestra in G major and D major.
The 2nd concerto is an arrangement for flute and string orchestra.The fabulous soloist of both works is Spanish flutist Diego García Conde, accompanied by
the Cologne New Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Volker Hartung.
Mozart's Concerto No. 1 for Flute and Orchestra in G major, K. 313, was probably composed in Salzburg in January or February 1777 and is today one of the most important and most frequently performed works of the genre. In addition, it is the composer's only solo concerto initially written for flute and is sometimes required as a standard work for auditions. The range of the solo part ranges from d1 to g3.
Mozart's solo and chamber music works for flute are usually associated with the commission of the wealthy Dutch music lover Ferdinand Dejean (1731–1797) in Mannheim in 1778, whom the composer confusingly referred to in his letters as "de Jean," "De Jean," "de champs" as well as "our Indian, "Indian Dutchman" or "rich Dutchman." Dejean, himself a doctor of the Dutch East India Company and a flute dilettante, invited the young Mozart to write him works for flute and offered him a princely fee.

Das Flötenkonzert Nr. 1 G-Dur KV 313 entstand 1778. Im Auftrag des niederländischen Flötisten Ferdinand De Jean im Jahr 1777 sollte Mozart vier Flötenquartette und drei Flötenkonzerte liefern, doch er vollendete nur zwei der drei Konzerte, KV 313 war das erste. Es gibt kein erhaltenes Manuskript, so dass es schwierig ist, Mozarts Intentionen eindeutig zu bestimmen. Es zählt jedoch heute zu den bedeutendsten und meistgespielten Werken der Gattung. Zudem ist es das einzige original für Flöte geschriebene Solokonzert des Komponisten und wird mitunter auch bei Probespielen als Standardwerk verlangt.

Mozart's 12th Piano Concerto, like the piano concerto No.14 K. 449, is still part of the early Viennese concertos. Still, in terms of content and form, it moves further away from this creative phase and points to the second group of Viennese concertos, which begins with the 15th Piano Concerto. He wrote both concertos as early as 1782.
With the 14th Piano Concerto, Mozart is at the crossroads from the old form to a new classical concept of the piano concerto. He states that he treats the wind instruments ad libitum one last time. In a letter to his father in 1784, Mozart reported: "This is a concerto of an extraordinary kind, and written more for a small than a large orchestra." The accompaniment can also be played with string instruments. In this recording, K. 414 is played with an accompanying string orchestra, whereas K.415 is presented with a full orchestra, including wind players.
The soloist is the celebrated Italian Pianist Filippo Faes, one of the long-time favorite artists performing Volker Hartung and his Cologne New Philharmonic Orchestra.

Mozarts 12. Klavierkonzert gehört ebenso wie das Klavierkonzert Nr. 14 KV 449 zu den frühen Wiener Konzerten. Inhaltlich und formal entfernt sie sich jedoch weiter von dieser Schaffensphase und verweist auf die zweite Gruppe Wiener Konzerte, die mit dem 15. Klavierkonzert beginnt. Beide Konzerte schrieb er bereits 1782. Mit dem 14. Klavierkonzert steht Mozart an der Schnittstelle von der alten Form zu einer neuen klassischen Konzeption des Klavierkonzerts. Er gibt an, die Blasinstrumente ein letztes Mal ad libitum zu behandeln. In einem Brief an seinen Vater schrieb Mozart 1784: "Dies ist ein Konzert von außerordentlicher Art, das mehr für ein kleines als für ein großes Orchester geschrieben ist."
Die Begleitung kann auch mit Streichinstrumenten gespielt werden. In dieser Aufnahme wird KV 414 mit einem begleitenden Streichorchester gespielt, während KV 415 mit einem kompletten Orchester einschließlich Bläsern präsentiert wird.
Solist ist der gefeierte italienische Pianist Filippo Faes, einer der langjährigen Lieblingskünstler von Volker Hartung und Junge Philharmonie Köln.

As the last of romantic symphonic composers Rachmaninoff represents a bridge between 19th century romanticism and modern times avangarde. His fabulous orchestrations generate lush sonorities and grandeur, and a style of overwhelming expression that fascinates the listener to this day. His 2nd piano concerto is a musical psychogram, as the young composer describes the healing of a profound mental depression.
This album contains three magnificent works by Russian composer Sergej Rachmaninoff.
Volker Hartung and fabulous pianist Stanislav SOLOVIEV gave a brilliant performance of Rachmaninoff’s 2nd piano concerto. They recorded in St. Petersburg with her great Philharmonic Orchestra. Back in Germany Hartung recorded the composer's own arrangement of „Vocalise for Orchestra“ with the Cologne New Philharmonic. He arranged Romance and Scherzo of the superb 1st string quartet for string orchestra, which the 17-year Rachmaninoff wrote as a student in 1890.

Die „Sieben letzten Worte des Erlösers am Kreuz“ für Streichquartett waren Joseph Haydns Lieblingskomposition.
Es ist ein monumentales und faszinierendes Werk.
Das Werk wurde 1786 für den Karfreitags-Gottesdienst im Oratorio de la Santa Cueva in Cádiz (Spanien) in Auftrag gegeben. Das Werk ist in sieben meditative Hauptabschnitte unterteilt - langsame Sätze, die von einer langsamen Einleitung und einem schnellen „Erdbeben" umrahmt werden, für insgesamt neun Sätze.
Auf diesem Album hört man die ursprüngliche Version für Streichorchester, die Haydn vor der Umformung der Partitur zum Oratorium (mit Solo- und Chorgesang) arrangiert hat.
Die großartigen Streicher der Jungen Philharmonie Köln unter der Leitung von Volker Hartung wurden in der prächtigen Akustik des Klosters Maria Laach in Deutschland aufgenommen.

Miltiadis (Miltos) Moumoulidis ist ein phänomenaler Musiker, einer der größten Meister seiner Kunst und einer der besten Klarinettisten der Welt.

Der Violinist Daniel Austrich aus St. Petersburg spielt eine herausragende Interpretation von Tschaikowsky’s Violinkonzert op.35. Der Solist und Volker Hartung ehren den Komponisten als Lyriker und präsentieren dieses Werk mit einem lyrischen Ansatz, ruhigeren Tempi und auf elegante, aber dennoch brillante Weise. Seit ihrer Uraufführung am 30. Dezember 1877 in Wien unter Leitung von Hans Richter ist die Zweite Sinfonie zu einem der beliebtesten Werke Brahms' geworden, ein strahlendes und beschwingtes Stück voller Sonnenschein und Fröhlichkeit.

Das Streichsextett Nr. 1 in B-Dur wurde 1860 von Johannes Brahms komponiert und in Hannover von einem Ensemble unter der Leitung seines Freundes Joseph Joachim uraufgeführt. Das Sextett ist für zwei Violinen, zwei Bratschen und zwei Celli besetzt. Das Kammerensemble der Jungen Philharmonie Köln mit Volker Hartung als 1. Bratschisten nahm dieses Werk in der glorreichen Akustik der romanischen Kirche St. Maria im Kapitol in Köln auf.

Die Junge Philharmonie Köln und Maestro Hartung feiern das Genie von Gioacchino Rossini, dem berühmtesten Opernkomponisten aller Zeiten. Seine Musik klingt, wie Champagner funkelt! Neben den Ouvertüren zu seinen berühmten Opern Barbier von Sevilla, Der Italiener in Alger, La Cenerentola und Wilhelm Tell, enthält dieses Album Instrumentalwerke aus seinen frühesten Tagen: Rossini schrieb seine Sonaten für Streicher, als er erst 12 Jahre alt war.
Mit 18 Jahren komponierte er "Variationen für Klarinette und kleines Orchester". Dieses Stück klingt wie eine Koloratur-Arie für die Klarinette und gibt dem Solisten viel Gelegenheit, sein virtuoses Talent zu beweisen- wie der griechische Klarinettist Miltos Mumulides brillant beweist!

Ludwig van Beethoven was perhaps the first self-certain individual in modern times and his work the musical embodiment and fulfilment of political revolution. Beethoven began his composing career with the creation of chamber works. His Septet Op 20 in E flat Major op. 20 for Clarinet, Horn, Bassoon, Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass was an instant great success in Vienna of 1799 and became one of the most popular works of Beethoven, witnessed numerous editions soon as well as arrangements for different instruments by the composer himself.
Conductor Volker Hartung thought to get a better dynamic balance between the strong wind instruments and the few strings in expanding this section. He uses the full string section of the orchestra, without changing the composition. On this album Maestro Hartung and the musicians from the Saint Petersburg Academic Philharmonic Orchestra are performing with 10 Violins, 5 Violas, 5 Celli and 3 Double Basses for their new recording of Beethoven's masterpiece with the advantages of modern high-end sound recording technologies in 24bit/48kHz HD-Audio.

During a journey to Prague Beethoven wrote four pieces for Mandolin and Piano for Comtesse Josephine von Clary-Aldringen, a well-known singer and mandolin player.
Miltos Mumulides, principal Clarinetist of the Cologne New Philharmonic, arranged the present version for clarinet and string orchestra. It keeps closely to the original and is written in the original key. The elegant work is a shining little jewel, full of humor, with deep emotions in the minor variation ideally suited for the register of the clarinet and brilliantly performed soloist and orchestra!

This Album celebrates the Magic of the Spanish South set to mesmerizing Music by Maurice Ravel, Georges Bizet and Manuel de Falla. De Falla' s wonderful impressions 'Nights in the Gardens of Spain' for piano and orchestra evoke the feelings of the composer when he visited the Arabian Palaces in Andalusia, in Granada and Cordoba. Italian pianist Filippo Faes gives a delightful and most sensitive performance. De Fallas ballet score 'El amor brujo (Love, the Magician)', sang by the great mezzo-soprano Dora Brockmann is distinctively Andalusian in character with the songs in the Andalusian Spanish dialect of the Gypsies. The music contains moments of remarkable beauty and originality. The Carmen Suites are two suites of orchestral music drawn from the music of Georges Bizet's 1875 famous opera 'Carmen'. This recording provides a selection of the best pieces from both suites. Bolero, is Ravel's most famous musical composition and was originally written as a ballet score, but is now usually played as a concert piece. The composition was a sensational success when it was premiered at the Paris Opéra in 1928 and has become world-famous since then. This album contains the slowest, yet powerful rendition of this work on record by Volker Hartung and his Cologne New Philharmonic Orchestra.

Maurice Ravel's Bolero, Georges Bizet's Carmen Suite, Manuel de Falla's Ballet 'El amor brujo' and his piano concerto 'Nights in the Gardens of Spain ' - these late romantic masterworks are presented here in a fabulous recording by Volker Hartung and his Cologne New Philharmonic Orchestra. Italian pianist Filippo Faes gives one of the greatest readings on record of de Falla's impressions of Andalusia. A great album not to be missed - remastered in 24bit/ 48khz and presented in fantastic sound.

A Concert extravaganza of Argentine Tangos is presented here in exciting live-performances. This Album is the result of a unique cooperation between Volker Hartung, members of the Cologne New Philharmonic and some of the greatest and well-known tango players from Buenos Aires:
Maestro Adolfo Gomez, grand seigneur of Bandoneon, the young and genial Alberto Pereyra, the amazing pianist Roberto César Calixto Cicaré, who in his youth had played together with Oswald Fresedo, the double-bass virtuoso Pablo Gatto and last but not least, the wonderful tango singer Marikena Monti. Together with first-chair soloists of Junge Philharmonie Köln they formed a unique blend of European & Argentine band sound during their sejourn in Germany.
Together they revived the greatest tangos of the past century and brought this program to an enthusiastic German public. Rarely will one listen to a recording of Tango music played with more devotion and fire. The young musicians of the Cologne Orchestra were carried away and overwhelmed by the overpowering emotional impact of this great music. Some of them regard this experience to this day as the most musical rewarding in their memories.
One may listen to this feast of sound and emotion and feel the same joy, than they did, when recording it live in concerts at Düsseldorf and Bonn in October 1997.

There were certainly no more interesting, more individual and more courageous conductors in these first two decades in the cultural life of Berlin, as Oskar Fried.
His program selections were consistently daring and highly modern for the time. He conducted world premieres of new works by Busoni and Pfitzner and the Viennese School, Schonberg, Berg, Webern. He also had the luck to be contemporary of the greatest musicians of the 20th century, and took advantage of the opportunities to learn from them. He was acquainted with Hans Pfitzner, Arnold Schonberg, Feruccio Busoni, Igor Stravinsky, Alexander Scriabin, Richard Strauss and many others and conducted their works, often as their first interpreter.
His special love was the work of Gustav Mahler (the manuscript of the Adagio from his 10th Symphony is seen on the cover of this album). He had the incredible opportunity, to study all his symphonies together with the composer himself who in turn offered to him the Berlin premiere of his sixth and eighth symphonies.
What experience! Which conductor can claim today, to have studied so close to the original source! This unique historical advantage make up the unique value of his performances besides his amazing sensitivity and his strikingly hypnotic talent to lead his Orchestras, which is fortunately preserved on a number of early acoustic and then electric records.
His performance practices were highly remarkable.
I have made the effort, therefore, to restore the 78-rpm shellac recordings by Oskar Fried from my collection and publish them for you, dear listener, in the best possible sound and give you the opportunity to listen back to an era when Symphonic recordings were still an adventure, a sensation of the moment, for which an orchestra gave everything, to look back a time when conductors lived who managed to draw secrets from scores of romantic symphonic music, which they new from composers who shared the same epoch.

Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony and Romeo & Julia Fantasy overture is presented here in an exiting performance under my direction at Tonhalle Dusseldorf, Germany.
This project was one of our most interesting and rewarding experiences and a great success with the audience in February 1998.
The wonderful playing by the Cologne Phil woodwind section was made possible by flutist Ed Senechal, Miltos Mumulides at the clarinet and bassoonist Dejan Topchiev together with their colleagues.
The famous French horn solo part in the slow movement was delivered 'con anima' and beautiful sound by Ansgar Faust. The great Jürgen Schuster played the Principal Trumpet. Concert masters Galina Stamenowa and Anja Bucoveç as well as principal cellist Jadranka Gasparovic and bassist Alexander Tchernoussov were leading the powerful string section.
These recordings have never been published before.
Now available an all media platforms like iTunes Music store, Spotify, Amazon and many others.

Tschaikowskys Fünfte Symphonie und die Romeo & Julia Fantasie Ouvertüre in einer feurigen Aufführung aus der Tonhalle Düsseldorf.
Dieses Projekt war eine unserer interessantesten und erfolgreichsten Erfahrungen und ein großer Erfolg beim Publikum im Februar 1998.
Das fabelhafte Zusammenspiel der Kölner Holzbläser wurde ermöglicht durch Ed Senechal an der 1.Flöte, Klarinettist Miltos Mumulides, Fagottist Dekan Topchiev und Kollegen. Das berühmte Horn-Solo im langsamen Satz blies Ansgar Faust mit viel Seele und schönem Ton. Der großartige Jürgen Schuster spielte die 1. Trompete.
Konzertmeisterinnen Galina Stamenowa und Anja Bukovec, sowie Solo-Cellistin Jadranka Gasparovic und Bassist Sascha Tchernoussov führten die großartige Streichergruppe an.

Diese Aufnahmen sind nie zuvor veröffentlicht worden.

In 1926 the musicologist Alberto Gentili discovered a wealth of unpublis­hed and previously unknown original manuscripts by Vivaldi in a convent in Alessandria, Italy. After their significance became clear, their ensued a long legal battle over the publication and performance rights.
Not until after World War II could the works be made public. All of the newly discovered works, together with all the other works of Vivaldi's unpublished in his lifetime have been catalogued by Peter Ryom and bear an "R" number.
Among these are the three 'Piccolo Concertos' heard on this recording- the only known works Vivaldi composed for his smallest and most agile mem­ber of the orchestra family. The dates of composition cannot be established with certainty.
The instrument which Vivaldi knew, the sopranino recorder, bears impor­tant differences to the modern Boehm piccolo: The recorder is inserted bet­ween the lips and played vertically, the piccolo rests on the lower lip and is played transversely; the recorder had simple holes where the piccolo has silver keys and a modern scale allowing all chromatic possibilities.
The instrument played by Mr. Schubert in this recording was crafted from grenadilla wood (body) and sterling silver (mechanism) by Philipp Hammig, Markneukirchen, East Germany, in 1990.

Since its rediscovery in 1949, »The Four Seasons« by Vivaldi have been recorded many times and are one of the most frequently played classical works. Therefore we were always reluctant to add another to the very many already published CD· s. However, many of our loyal listeners asked us for our own version. We gladly obliged and since we have with Davide Toso an excellent musician from Vivaldi's Venetian home within our illustrious ranks, who has this specific musical language in his blood, we believe to add a strong personal and exciting interpretation to the general Vivaldi choir of recordings.
